Cuzco - Ollantaytambo - Km. 82 - Wayllabamba - Ayapata

The first day of the Classic Inca Trail with Salas Travel Perú is a journey of discovery and challenge. It begins with an early morning departure from Cusco toward Km 82, the official starting point of the trek. This initial walk along the Urubamba River offers breathtaking views of the Andean landscape and provides a gentle introduction to high-altitude hiking.

A highlight of the day is the arrival at the impressive ruins of Llactapata, where we’ll stop to explore and appreciate their historical significance. From there, the trail leads to Hatun Chaca, marking the beginning of a more demanding ascent into the Andes.

As we continue toward Huayllabamba, the lush Sacred Valley gives way to rugged mountain terrain, and the hike becomes increasingly challenging. The final stretch brings us to our campsite near Ayapata, where the effects of the altitude begin to be felt. Beneath the Andean night sky, we reflect on the day’s journey and prepare for the adventure that lies ahead.

Day
02

Ayapata - Dead Woman's Pass - Chaquiqocha

The second day of the Classic Inca Trail is both challenging and breathtakingly beautiful. At dawn, we begin the most demanding part of the trek, ascending from Huayllabamba through lush cloud forest into the high Andean plains. The climb to Dead Woman’s Pass—the highest point of the trail at 4,215 meters (13,828 feet)—is steep and requires a steady pace to ensure proper acclimatization.

Reaching the summit brings a deep sense of accomplishment and offers panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. From the pass, we descend into the Pacaymayu Valley, where we take a well-deserved break before continuing to our second campsite near Chaqui Qocha.

This section of the journey is rich in Inca ruins and natural wonders, offering a deeper appreciation of ancient engineering and the region’s diverse ecosystems. As night falls, we settle into our peaceful campsite, sharing stories, enjoying a warm meal, and resting beneath a sky full of stars—recharging for the adventures that lie ahead.

Day
03

Chaquiqocha - Phuyupatamarka - Intipata - Winay Wayna

The third day of the Classic Inca Trail with Salas Travel Perú takes us through some of the most scenic and historically rich landscapes along the route. Departing from Chaqui Qocha, we follow ancient stone paths that showcase the remarkable Inca architecture still standing today.

Our journey leads us to Phuyupatamarca, known as the “City in the Clouds,” where we’ll enjoy spectacular panoramic views and explore its beautifully preserved ruins. From there, the trail features a long descent down a series of stone steps toward the Urubamba River, blending dramatic natural beauty with archaeological discovery.

As we continue, the path winds through a lush cloud forest, filled with orchids, ferns, and a rich variety of birdlife. The highlight of the day is Wiñay Wayna, an impressive Inca site known for its cascading agricultural terraces that reflect the brilliance of ancient farming techniques.

We camp near this site, reflecting on the incredible journey so far while sharing stories and laughter with fellow trekkers. With Machu Picchu just around the corner, excitement builds as we prepare for the final stretch of our unforgettable adventure.
