Your adventure begins at 5:00 am with a hotel pickup and a scenic 4-hour drive to Capuliyoc, perched above the Apurimac Canyon. After meeting the horsemen and loading the equipment, you start your hike with stunning views of snow-capped peaks. A 2-hour descent takes you to Chikiska for lunch, then continue 1 more hour to reach Playa Rosalinas (1,550m / 5,084ft). Your campsite will be ready with hot drinks, appetizers, and dinner.

Playa Rosalina – Maranpata – Choquequirao
Enjoy a hot drink in your tent before breakfast. Begin the steep 4-hour ascent through Santa Rosa until Maranpata, where lunch is served. From here, you’ll have your first panoramic views of Choquequirao, then hike 2 more hours to the archaeological site (3,110m / 10,120ft). Campsite is set with drinks and dinner while you enjoy the sunset and maybe spot condors.

Choquequirao – Pinchiunuyoc
Spend the morning exploring the extensive ruins of Choquequirao with your guide before continuing the journey. After lunch, cross a ridge and descend about 2 hours to reach the mysterious site of Pinchiunuyoc, where we camp.

Pinchiunuyoc – Río Blanco – Maizal
After breakfast, hike downhill for 2 hours to Río Blanco (1,990m / 6,527ft) for lunch. From there, tackle a challenging 3–4 hour ascent to Maizal, a peaceful campsite with great mountain views.

Maizal – Yanama – Totora – Lucmabamba
Climb through lush subtropical forests to visit the Victoria Mines and continue 1 more hour to the Victoria Pass (4,130m / 13,546ft) with breathtaking panoramas. Descend about 2 hours to Yanama, then take local transport through scenic valleys until Lucmabamba, surrounded by waterfalls and snow-capped peaks.

Lucmabamba – Llactapata – Aguas Calientes
Walk along a section of the original Inca Trail for about 3 hours to reach Llactapata (2,700m / 8,907ft), an Inca site directly facing Machu Picchu. After enjoying this unique perspective, descend 2 hours to the Hydroelectric plant for lunch, then continue walking through the Machu Picchu Sanctuary until you reach Aguas Calientes.

Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco
Today is the highlight – Machu Picchu! Take an early bus to watch the sunrise over the citadel. Your guide will lead a 2-hour tour, explaining the agricultural, religious, and residential sectors of the site. After free time to explore, return by bus to Aguas Calientes, then take the train to Ollantaytambo and a private transfer back to Cusco (arrival around 7:00 pm).

Hotel pick-up and private transport: On the morning of the trek, we’ll collect you directly from your hotel and drive you in private transportation to Capuliyoc, the starting point of your journey.

Camping comfort: Stay in spacious, four-season tents (two people per tent designed for four) ensuring comfort and warmth each night. We also provide a full camping set-up including a dining tent, tables, chairs, kitchen tent, and a toilet tent.
Delicious meals: All meals mentioned in the itinerary are prepared by our trekking chef. Vegetarian or special diets can be accommodated with prior notice. Hot drinks, afternoon tea, and freshly boiled water are always available.
Aguas Calientes experience: Spend one night in a comfortable hotel in Aguas Calientes, complete with a private room and bathroom, and enjoy a celebratory dinner at a local restaurant.
Transport connections: Bus tickets from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu (round-trip), an Expedition train ticket from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo, and private transfer back to your hotel in Cusco are all included.
Support team & pack horses: Our reliable horsemen and pack horses will carry all group equipment and up to 7 kg of your personal belongings (sleeping bag, extra clothes, etc.). In case of illness or emergency, an additional horse will be available to ensure every traveler completes the trek.
Safety first: A fully equipped First Aid kit, including an emergency oxygen bottle, is carried by the guide throughout the trek.
Clean water: Safe, boiled water is provided for drinking and washing every day, with refill points at each mealtime.
Taxes and fees: All applicable government taxes are already included in the price—no hidden costs.
What’s Not Included
To keep the trek flexible and adaptable to your preferences, some items are not included in the package price. These can be rented, purchased, or added as optional upgrades:
Sleeping bag rental: If you don’t bring your own, we can provide a high-quality sleeping bag suitable for temperatures as low as –10°C at a cost of $25 USD.
Air mattress rental: For added comfort during camping nights, you may rent an inflatable air mattress for $25 USD.
Trekking poles: Lightweight and adjustable poles are available for rent at $20 USD per pair.
Huayna Picchu entry fee: The optional hike up Huayna Picchu Mountain requires an additional entry ticket of $70 USD. This is one of the most popular add-ons, offering incredible views of Machu Picchu.
Extra horse for luggage: Our package includes 7 kg of personal items carried by horses. If you need additional weight allowance, an extra horse can be arranged at an additional cost.
Optional upgrades: Travelers can upgrade to the Vistadome Train, request a higher hotel category in Aguas Calientes, or add other luxury services for an additional fee.
Meals not mentioned in the itinerary: Lunch on the last day in Aguas Calientes and other meals outside the trekking itinerary are not included.
Tips: Gratuities for the guide, cook, and horsemen are not included. While optional, they are a much-appreciated way to show gratitude to your trekking team.
💡 Note on Huayna Picchu: This hike is optional and not guided by default. Most visitors do it on their own after the main tour of Machu Picchu. If you would prefer a private guided Huayna Picchu hike, please let us know in advance—an additional cost will apply.

Practical Information
Arrival in Cusco
Upon arrival at Cusco airport, our representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. Please make sure to send us your full flight details at least 15 days before arrival. Look for our Nickey Travel sign at the exit gate of the arrival terminal.
Pre-Trek briefing
The evening before your trek, at 6:00 pm, we will hold a detailed briefing at our office in Cusco. Your guide will explain the itinerary, answer questions, and provide your duffel bag for packing.
Luggage storage
You can safely leave your main luggage in our office or at your hotel in Cusco while you are on the trek.

Date changes and cancellations

You must carry your original passport during the trek. If you renew or change your passport after booking, you must either:

If you cannot finish the Trek
In case of illness or difficulty, we will assist you to the nearest town for evacuation. Oxygen is always available, and in emergencies, a helicopter can be arranged (travel insurance required).
Drop-off After the Trek
On the final day, you will be dropped off directly at your hotel in Cusco.
